Vanderbilt vs LSU final score, highlights in college football

Vanderbilt football lost its second straight game, falling to LSU, 24-17, on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

The Commodores (6-5, 3-4 SEC) scored a touchdown on their opening drive but only got one more touchdown all game, late in the fourth quarter. Despite getting within one score, Vanderbilt never got the ball back as LSU drove down near the goal line before running the clock out.

LSU (7-4, 4-3) has not lost to the Commodores since 1990.

Vanderbilt has not scored more than 24 points since an upset of Alabama the first week of October.

Pavia started at quarterback for Vanderbilt but he is not at 100% after playing through multiple injuries during the season. He was 13-for-24 for 186 yards passing and had six rushes for 43 yards.

Vanderbilt will take on Tennessee to end the regular season, with a chance to knock the Vols out of the College Football Playoff.

Vanderbilt vs LSU score updates

Fourth quarter

Vanderbilt scored the touchdown after converting a fake punt by Jesse Mirco.

On 3rd-and-10, a would-be LSU touchdown was taken off the board by replay when the receiver dropped the ball before hitting the ground. The Tigers opted to kick the field goal instead, with Vanderbilt spending a timeout in the process.

Third quarter

After a 4th-and-4 conversion put LSU in the red zone, Nussmeier found a wide-open Kyren Lacy in the end zone for the score.

After converting a fourth down earlier on their first drive of the second half, the Commodores faced a 4th-and-4 and lined up to go for it but after LSU called a timeout, Vanderbilt decided to kick the field goal instead. Taylor, a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, nailed the kick.

Second quarter

After several drives of futility for both teams, including red-zone fourth-down stops for both teams, Josh Williams scored his second rushing touchdown of the game to give LSU the lead.

First quarter

Vanderbilt set up the Tigers at their own 10 with a squib kick from the 50-yard line, but LSU marched down the field anyway for a touchdown, punctuated by a run by Josh Williams from 20 yards out.

Diego Pavia, on Vanderbilt’s first play from scrimmage, found a wide-open Quincy Skinner downfield for the first score of the game. The touchdown happened despite a facemask call on LSU, a penalty that was declined.
