Spurs complete late comeback vs. Warriors, 104-94

Coming off a win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night in the NBA Cup group stage, the Golden State Warriors quickly turned the page for the second leg of a road back-to-back on Saturday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Despite playing Friday night, the Warriors didn’t look like a team on the second game of an early back-to-back road against the Spurs. Behind Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors jumped out to an early 12-point lead in the first quarter.

The Warriors increased their early advantage to as many as 17 points with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Despite holding a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, the Warriors couldn’t close the door on Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.

As Wembanyama and the Spurs began to go on a late run, the Warriors went ice cold in the fourth quarter. The Warriors shot 21.1% from the field in the fourth quarter, scoring only 13 points in the final frame. With the Warriors struggling to find the bottom of the net, the Spurs took advantage.

In the fourth quarter, the Spurs tallied 33 points to stun the Warriors with a late comeback win, 104-94.

Wiggins led the Warriors with 20 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and 4-of-10 shooting from deep with five rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes. Wiggins was the only member of the Warriors to score 20 points on Saturday against the Spurs.

Wembanyama tallied a game-high 25 points on 9-of-21 shooting from the floor with nine assists and seven rebounds against the Warriors. Former Warrior Harrison Barnes added 22 points. Fellow former Golden State guard Chris Paul notched nine points and seven assists in San Antonio’s comeback win.

The Warriors will return back to the Bay Area on Monday for a contest against the Brooklyn Nets at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
