LA CROSSE, Wis. (WFRV) – A police officer in Wisconsin is being praised for going above and beyond the call of duty after helping out a woman and her young child.

According to a release, Officer Lozano of the La Crosse Police Department initiated a welfare check when he saw a woman and her young child in an open parking lot.

The woman had reportedly told Officer Lozano that she had come to the area to meet a friend, but that person had left them behind.

The woman’s vehicle was out of fuel, she had very little money for food, and the child was in need of some clothing. That’s when Officer Lozano stepped up to the plate.

Officer Lozano contacted local resources, and while waiting for openings, he purchased food for the two, clothes for the child, fuel for the vehicle, and a calling card.

Thanks to Officer Lozano, the woman was able to connect with her family from out of state, resulting in a happy ending for both sides.

The La Crosse Police Department’s social media post read, “Officer Lozano, thank you for going above and beyond.”

Nearly 100 individuals commented on the social media post, most praising Officer Lozano’s compassion and excellent service toward the community.
