New case of online fraud reported as 75-year-old losses €20,000

The Police in Limassol are investigating a case of online fraud following a complaint made by a 75-year-old man.

According to the complainant, in late July, he came across and followed a specific investment advertisement on a social media platform.

On the same day, the 75-year-old received a phone call from an unknown individual from a foreign country, who introduced himself as an investment advisor.

After being convinced by the caller, the complainant granted the supposed advisor access to his computer via a specific electronic application.

As a result, the unknown individual allegedly withdrew €20,000 from the 75-year-old’s digital wallet he has on an application, without his consent.

The Financial Crime Investigation Office is currently investigating the matter.
