Lawyer: Labor Party over 300 thousand. EUR fine will be requested to be paid in installments

The Labor Party was fined for bribery and influence peddling.

Last week, the Court of Appeal announced the verdict in this criminal case, and it came into effect immediately. Shortly after that, those convicted in the case were taken to Kaunas prison, “MG Grupė” paid 1.1 million. EUR fine, and the former vice president of the concern Raimundas Kurlianskis – almost EUR 19,000. eurofine,

“First of all, a large amount is probably the main criterion. Since the decision has entered into force, it is not reasonable to cover it (the fine – BNS) with additional costs, when there is a reasonable way to arrange the payment in time”, lawyer V. Sviderkis told BNS on Monday.

Often in various criminal cases, the courts, when passing judgments, also specify the time period in which the fine must be paid. The payment of the fines imposed in the “MG Group” case was not arranged for any of the convicts. In this case, the convicted persons who have not paid the fine will have to apply to the court for the arrangement of their payment in installments.

The lawyer says that paying a fine of this size would probably be a big burden for any Lithuanian party, because parties have very limited opportunities to both receive and spend funds.

“The law on financing political parties sets only limited options from where a party can receive funds,” said the lawyer.

According to him, the Labor Party itself will probably go to court regarding the payment of the fine.

The lawyer also said that the party will file a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court.

“The party cannot be the subject of responsibility,” believes V. Sviderskis.

Last week, the Court of Appeal of Lithuania changed the decision of the court of first instance and found all the defendants in the case guilty.

R. Kurlianskis, the former vice president of the concern, was sentenced to imprisonment for six years and more than 18.8 thousand. EUR fine, as well as his right to hold managerial positions in the public and private sectors, in the means of public information provided for in the Law on Public Information, has been deprived of him for five years.

The representative of the Labor Party in the Seimas, Vytautas Gapšys, was found guilty of influence peddling and bribery, he was sentenced to four years and six months of imprisonment, for five years he was deprived of the right to be elected or appointed to all positions elected or appointed by state or municipal institutions and institutions, companies, non-governmental organizations, it was also decided to collect 8 thousand from him. euros.

The former chairman of the Liberal Movement, Eligijus Masiulis, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, and 241,500 was also confiscated from him. euros, to be recognized as a bribe.

According to the court, the concern “MG Baltic” (now “MG Grupė”), which operated through R. Kurlianskis, and Eligijus Masiulis, Šarūnas Gustainis and Gintaras Steponavičius, who represented the Liberal Movement, and Vytautas Gapšis, who represented the Labor Party, “were connected by the usual political and business connections that go beyond the limits of communication, that is, corrupt.

The convicts were brought to Kaunas prison on Friday, and later, within 10 days, they were distributed to specific places of execution of the sentence.
