Early morning crash closed WB lanes on I-94 in Johnson Creek

JOHNSON CREEK, Wis. (WMTV) – All lanes are re-opened on I-94 westbound at WIS 26 after a three vehicle crash closed down the interstate for nearly four hours. The Johnson Creek Fire Department says the crash happened around 4:00 am Thursday morning.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Village of Jefferson County Fire Department are all on scene.

The driver of one of the vehicles involved says he hit a patch of black ice on the 267 bridge that caused his camper to fishtail and flip. All three vehicles coming from the Milwaukee area were towing campers.

The Village of Johnson Creek Fire Chief, Ben Patterson, says all three campers have significant damage but everyone is okay.

“Luckily only two minor injuries and nobody was transported from this scene.”

Patterson says all three drivers did hit black ice, causing the crash. He warns drivers to be careful leaving their homes today.

“Everybody slow down…we have witnessed numerous salt and brine trucks out on the roads already this morning but speed is going to be a significant factor with this so want everybody to stay safe and slow down please.”

All lanes of 1-94 westbound at WIS 26 are open as of 8:15 am Thursday morning.
