Three sobriety checkpoints in NE Ohio tonight

(WJW) – Law enforcement officers in multiple cities and counties have announced planned sobriety checkpoints for Friday, August 2.

In Solon, police will be conducting a checkpoint near Aurora Road.

OVI checkpoints are also planned in Sandusky County and Summit County Friday into Saturday, August 3.

The Sandusky location was announced in Sandusky County on Rawson Ave. in Fremont from 8 pm to 10 pm

The Summit County location has not been announced.

“State troopers make an average of 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers,” the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a press release. “OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”

“The checkpoint is designed to detect impaired drivers before they can hurt themselves or others, and to educate the public about the dangers of drunk driving,” Solon police said in a press release.

Sobriety checkpoints are funded by federal grants.
