Woman charged with murder after remains found in apartment

A 22-year-old woman is facing charges of first-degree murder and indecent interference with a body after a Honduras man’s remains were found in a northwest Toronto apartment in June, police say.

In a news release Tuesday, Toronto police investigators said the charges were linked to a “check address” call in the Weston Road and Black Creek Drive area on June 27.

Officers found “biological remains and chemicals” in the apartment, investigators say, leading specialized teams being called in to safely remove the chemicals.

Forensic testing determined the remains were human and were later confirmed to be those of 40-year-old Selvin Paz Mejia, of Honduras.

Police said Tuesday that the 22-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with the case on July 25.

She was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

Investigators provided no other details about the case except for the initial news release, and refused a request for an interview when asked by CBC News.
