Patriots rooting guide

Go Browns! New England isn’t eliminated from playoff contention yet, but they will not be catching the Steelers. So, they’ll side with the two-win Browns to potentially slide down the draft order. | 8:15 p.m. ET, Amazon

Patriots picks

Oliver Thomas: We’ll keep the light on for Jameis Winston to do Jameis Winston things. He was meant for Thursday nights and has managed to throw exactly 46 passes in back-to-back starts. But the Steelers are allowing 16.2 points per game this season. And that, combined with six field goals from Chris Boswell, was a pretty good formula to get to 8-2 last week against Lamar Jackson’s Ravens. | Steelers 21, Browns 17

Brian Hines: The Russell Wilson experiment has gotten off to a strong start for the Steelers. There’s a chance here for a let down spot coming off a big win over the Ravens and headed on the road (in potential poor conditions) in a short week, but Cleveland has been uncompetitive for most of this season. Even with Winston behind center, their offensive issues won’t start to get better against Pittsburgh’s defense. | Steelers 20, Browns 13

Bernd Buchmasser: The Steelers are not winning the fancy way, but they are winning. The expectation should be that they will continue doing so against a hapless Browns team that has struggled throughout the year. Yes, division games tend to follow their own rules but Pittsburgh simply is the better and more competitive team so far this year. | Steelers 24, Browns 17
