The Florida football-Georgia rivalry goes back to 1915, when the two schools first met in Jacksonville.

The Florida Gators lost the first six meetings between the two schools and failed to score a point in the first four games before dropping a 32-9 game in Athens. Ga., in 1926.

Jacksonville became the permanent home of the series in 1933, and Florida and Georgia will again meet in the River City when the Gators and Bulldogs face off along the banks of the Saint Johns River at EverBank Stadium on Saturday.

Florida (4-3, 2-2 SEC) won 17 of 20 meetings from 1990-2010, but Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) has balanced the scales in the series of late, winning nine of the last 13 meetings between the two schools.

Georgia leads the overall series, 55-44, with two ties.

Florida football coach Billy Napier knows the passion of both sides of the rivalry as well as a former high school football player and son of a high school coach in Chatsworth, Ga.

“The history behind the game, obviously, neutral site makes it very unique,” Napier said. “You know, split stadium. I grew up watching this game, you know, sitting on the edge of my seat in that living room, my dad watching this game. So, yeah, so, humbling to be a part of.”

Eventually, Georgia’s depth and physicality on both lines of scrimmage will wear UF down as it has the last two meetings. Lagway will make some plays early for the Gators but will turn the ball over in a critical spot in the second half trying to rally the Gators back.
