Sprint queen Fraser-Pryce withdraws from 100m semis

The great Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s Olympic 100m swansong has ended in bizarre circumstances.

Fraser-Pryce, 37, was a no-show for her semi-final, which featured Australian Bree Masters.

The Jamaican athletics federation informed World Athletics that Fraser-Pryce, who won the Olympic 100m title in 2008 and 2012, had suffered an injury.

But footage emerged from her apparently being denied access to the warm-up track ahead of the Sunday evening session at the Stade de France.

In his absence, Julien Alfred from St Lucia (10.84) qualified fastest for Sunday’s final which will also feature world champion Sha’Carri Richardson from the United States.

The only Jamaican to qualify for the final was Tia Clayton.

Elaine Thompson-Herah, Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson swept the women’s 100m medals for Jamaica at the Tokyo Olympics.
