PFB Picks: Predictions for Oklahoma State’s Week 10 Matchup with Arizona State

The Cowboys are back in Stillwater for Homecoming, and they’ll need some home cooking in the worst way.

Oklahoma State is 3-5, having lost all five of its Big 12 games so far. A loss against the visiting 5-2 (2-2) Sun Devils would not only put the Cowboys in a precarious position to keep a 19-year bowl streak alive, it would be their first time to ever lose six in a row under Mike Gundy.

A win doesn’t fix much, but it might stop the bleeding, and the Cowboys have seemed to be inching closer to competence on both sides of the ball. Will they finally get over the hump?

Here’s how the PFB staff sees this one playing out.

Marshall Scott

Score: Arizona State 35, Oklahoma State 21

OSU MVP: Brennan Presley

Uniform: Oklahoma A&M Tiger Throwbacks

Thoughts: Cam Skattebo is not a running back you want to see when your tackling and effort is being called into question. I’m not sure how much better the Sun Devils are compared to BYU and Baylor (two teams the Cowboys hung around with), but I think this is a horrible matchup for the Pokes given the physical tailback who should get 50 carries on Saturday.

Kyle Cox

Score: Arizona State 27, Oklahoma State 19

OSU MVP: Brennan Presley

Uniform: Oklahoma A&M Tiger Throwbacks

Thoughts: Two weeks ago, without QB Sam Leavitt, the Sun Devils failed in the ground game and it cost them a loss to Cincinnati. Star running back Cam Skattebo was held to just 75 yards after going for over 150 in his previous two outings. One the other side of the ball, the Sun Devils gave up a season-high in rushing yards and YPC to the Bearcats. Fortunately for the Sun Devils, they are facing Oklahoma State — the No. 14 rushing offense and No. 16 rushing defense in the Big 12.

Dekota Gregory

Score: Arizona State 38, Oklahoma State 23

USO MVP: Ollie Gordon

Uniform: Oklahoma A&M Tiger Throwbacks

Thoughts: My current MVP for this game is Cam Skattebo, who might break records inside BPS against this porous OSU defense. No matter how competent OSU’s offense looks Saturday, the defense will still keep this team from tallying a win, ultimately giving the Pokes the longest losing streak since before I was born.
