OPP renew calls for help 4 years after Ottawa man found dead near Guelph

It’s been four years since the body of Mohamed Amin Ismail of Ottawa was found near Guelph, Ont., and the Ontario Provincial Police are renewing calls for the public’s help with the case.

On Aug. 4, 2020 at 7:15 pm, police in Wellington County were called to Watson Road N. just outside of Guelph after receiving report from a jogger that they had found a deceased person along the side of the road. The stretch of roadway where the body was located is rural and there are no streetlights in the area.

Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Ismail. His death was determined to be a homicide, police say, although police have not released the exact cause of death.

It’s unclear why Ismail was in the area near Guelph, approximately 475 km southwest of Ottawa.

The area is popular with cyclists, bird watchers and outdoor enthusiasts, so researchers are appealing to anyone who was in the area.

“Investigators believe that individuals in the areas of Wellington County, Kitchener-Waterloo and Ottawa may have information that can help with the investigation,” police said in a media release on Friday.

“Anyone with any information, no matter how minor, is asked to come forward and help bring resolution to Mohamed’s family.”
