On/off weekend rain… Strong/severe storms possible Monday!

This weekend is looking pretty cloudy and a little gloomy, with occasional light rain and maybe some isolated, afternoon thunderstorms. The big weather changes and higher-impact storms won’t hit until Monday, with our next cold front sliding through. Severe weather is possible Monday, including damaging winds, spin-up tornadoes, and localized flooding, especially along/east of I-35 during the afternoon hours. Keep an eye on the forecast leading up to Monday!

Today, you can expect a lot of cloud cover and drizzle to kick off the weekend, with some light rain possible this morning. By the afternoon, things could get a bit more active, especially east of I-35, but we likely won’t see any severe weather just yet. That said, there’s a *chance* of a stronger storm or two to form this afternoon, especially if the sun peaks out at times throughout the day.

Jumping to Sunday, expect a similar pattern—morning clouds and drizzle with some afternoon storms potentially moving in from the west. Damaging winds, hail, and locally heavy rain are the concerns in a few storms. The actual action will come late Sunday into Monday when a significant round of thunderstorms is expected, which could bring severe weather and localized flooding.

Monday could see a powerful line of storms as a cold front descends across Central Texas. There’s a risk for damaging winds and possibly even tornadoes, especially east of I-35. It’s a good idea to stay alert and have ways to receive weather updates. After the front passes on Monday night, expect cooler and drier weather to settle in for a few days. We see the rain end by Tuesday morning and we start the day in the 50s. 40s in the morning by Wednesday!

Highs on Election Day should be in the upper 60s/low 70s with drier conditions expected, but keep an eye out for a new storm system approaching later in the week that keeps us in a wet/active pattern.
