On a record breaking October

On a record breaking October

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – 0.00″. That’s the final rainfall measurement for Easterwood Airport for the entire month of October.

Zero. Zilch. Nothing. Goose eggs. We were shut out from rain for the entire month and then some. Halloween was our hope to move us out of that ghastly #1 spot, but to no avail.

Easterwood Field caught no rainfall throughout the entire month of October.(KBTX)

For reference, this has only happened THREE times in our recorded history (since 1882), and this is the first time since 1952 that we’ve failed to record any precipitation for the month of October, our wettest month, climatologically speaking.

This was also the WARMEST October on record.

October brought an overwhelming amount of above average heat.(KBTX)

We saw 23 days of 90° heat or higher, and only TWO days of recorded below average high temperatures.

We set/tied 9 daily temperature records.

The overall average temperature of October was 78.1°, shattering the previously recorded hottest October back in 2004, which held an average temperature of 77°.

This October brought record breaking heat.(KBTX)

The good news: At least some relief still looks to arrive in terms of both temperatures and rainfall in the first several days of November. While this will not bring us out of drought, it should be a step in the right direction.

The upcoming week will try to take temperatures closer to average for this time of year.(KBTX)
