Northern Lights likely visible Thursday night and possibly again Friday night

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Northern Lights will likely be visible over central and Northern Wisconsin Thursday night, as a strong geomagnetic storm arrives over Earth for the end of the work week. A strong solar flare launched a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) toward the planet Tuesday October 8, and will arrive Thursday night into early Friday morning.

The best viewing of the Northern Lights will be outside city limits and away from all external light sources after sunset Thursday night and before daybreak Friday. Cloud cover will hamper some of the viewing of the lights in the early morning hours Friday, so best viewing will be after 9 pm Thursday night and before 4 am Friday morning.
