More than two dozen stolen in incident at Chippewa County apple orchard

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) – The deputy chief of the Chippewa Fire District has confirmed with WEAU that there are 25 people injured after two tractors collided at the Bushel and a Peck Apple Orchard in the Town of Lafayette.

Chippewa County Sheriff, Travis Hakes, also confirmed that no one was killed. He says there will be a news conference sometime Wednesday afternoon.

According to the St. Mark Lutheran Church and School website calendar, the 4k and 5k students there had a field trip at Bushel and a Peck Wednesday. The deputy chief would not confirm the ages of the people injured or the severity of their injuries. He says because of the large number of people involved, they enacted a Mass Casualty Response which is standard procedure when they don’t have enough resources to respond.

Our crew on scene says multiple emergency vehicles responded as well as at least one helicopter.

We are told all children have been reunited with their families. Student Transit also came to the orchard to pick up the kids.

According to Dan Lea, Senior Communications Specialist with Mayo Clinic Health System, Mayo Clinic Health System is among the agencies responding to the incident that occurred at Bushel and Peck Orchard. Emergency response teams have been mobilized.

We will continue to follow this developing story online and on our evening newscasts.
