Michigan State Spartans football vs. Purdue Boilermakers

Michigan State Spartans football vs. Purdue Boilermakers

Touchdown, MSU!

That was fun. Chiles made a few big plays, and then threw a dart to Montorie Foster for a seven-yard touchdown. Unfortunately, Jack Velling took a massive hit on the drive and was stretched off. He gave a thumbs up on the way off. Kayron Lynch-Adams got all of the carries on that first drive, over Nate Carter. Something to watch.

SACK! But Purdue takes the early lead

For the first time in almost two months, the Spartans defense comes up with a sack. It was provided by Angelo Grose on third down in the red zone. Purdue moved the ball well though, using the connection between QB Hudson Card and tight end Max Klare well. Devin Mokobee, the running back who started for Purdue in the Big Ten championship game two years ago, was also heavily used.

Friday night lights!

Purdue ball first, MSU won the toss and decided that was the way to go. Football time!

Michigan State has lost six of seven and carries a three-game losing streak into Friday night’s game against Purdue.

The good news is there’s still time to salvage the season for the Spartans and earn a bowl berth. At 4-6, Michigan State needs to win its final two games, both at home, to become bowl eligible. MSU has not been to a bowl game since 2021 and head coach Jonathan Smith would love to taste the postseason in Year 1 at the helm.

The Boilermakers are winless in the Big Ten and have lost nine in a row after winning their season opener against Indiana State. With next week’s regular-season finale against Rutgers being winnable game as well, this is a good chance for MSU to build some momentum for the program going forward.

The Spartans are playing in primetime again and are the only power conference game on the Friday slate. Against bottom-feeding Purdue, Michigan State needs to take care of business and come ready to play.
