Meet The Stars Who Voice The Animated Transformers

The Transformers are going back to the beginning with Transformers Onean animated adventure featuring a star-studded voice cast.

Playing in Thursday previews before opening in theaters nationwide on Friday, the logline for the movie reads, “Transformers One is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever. In the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie.”

Orion Pax/Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth)

Orion Pax—who eventually becomes known as Optimus Prime in Transformers One—is voiced by Thor and Avengers saga star Chris Hemsworth.

Transformers One marks Hemsworth’s first voice role for a feature film. Previously, Hemsworth voiced the role of King Thor Odinson/Thor for the animated Marvel series What If …?

D-16/Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry)

Eternals and Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry voices D-16—who eventually becomes Megatron—in Transformers One.

Henry’s animated feature film credits include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Jefferson Davis) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Jeff Morales).

Elita 1 (Scarlett Johansson)

Black Widow and Avengers saga star Scarlett Johansson voices Elita 1 in Transformers One.

Johansson has several animated voice roles to her credit, including the TV series Robot Chicken (various) and Assassin Banana (Pink Lady), and on the big screen The Spongebob SquarePants Movie (Mindy), Isle of Dogs (Nutmeg) and Sing (Ash) and its sequel.

B-127 (Keegan-Michael Key)

Key & Peele and Wonka star Keegan-Michael Key voices B-127 in Transformers One.

Key has several animated voice roles to his credit, including the TV series The Simpsons (Jazzy James), Archer (Floyd/Rim Shot/Detective Rim Shot), Samurai Jack (Da’ Samurai) and Bob’s Burgers (Dr. Juarez/Todd/Corey).

The actor also voiced roles for several animated films, including Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania (Murray), Toy Story 4 (Ducky), The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Toad), Migration (Delroy), IF (Slime) and the 2019 version of The Lion King (Kamari).

Sentinel Prime (Jon Hamm)

Mad Men and Top Gun: Maverick star Jon Hamm voices Sentinel Prime in Transformers One.

Hamm’s animated voice roles include the series Robot Chicken (Alistair Cooke/various), Bob’s Burgers (Toilet), Archer (Captain Murphy), SpongeBob SquarePants (Don Grouper), Big Mouth (Scallops), Invincible (Steve) amd MODOK (Tony Stark/Iron Man).

On film, Hamm’s animated voice credits include Minions (Herb Overkill).

Transformers One also stars the voices of Laurence Fishburne (Alpha Trion), Steve Buscemi (Starscream), Isaac C. Singleton Jr. (Darkwing), James Remar (Zeta Prime), Jon Bailey (Soundwave), Evan Michael Lee (Jazz), Vanessa Liguori (Airachnid), Jason Konopisos-Alvarez (Shockwave) and Jinny Chung (Chromia).

Transformers One is directed by Josh Cooley.
