Knoxville weather | Warm today ahead of increasing winds then cool rain

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Mild mornings and warm afternoons continue, but up next we’ll see more wind Thursday then rain Friday.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The humidity is up this week, so that keeps us warmer each night. We’ll see a few more clouds at times today, still mostly sunny to partly cloudy at times. With that humidity, we can also see a stray shower develop. We have a southwesterly wind 5 to 10 mph and a warmer high of 80 degrees.

Tonight will be even warmer, with some clouds and a light breeze, so Knoxville drops to 59 degrees. The wind increases in the higher elevations tonight, so you’ll want to secure outdoor decorations before bed tonight.

LOOKING AHEAD

Winds increase Thursday, with gusts around 20 mph at times in the Valley and closer to 30 mph at our higher elevations. Be sure those Halloween decorations are secure, especially the inflatables! We’re still warm in that First Alert Halloween Forecast, with a high of 78 degrees and only cooling to around 70 by 8 pm for trick-or-treaters.

As of now, showers reach the Plateau as early as Thursday evening, but the front itself moves in a batch of rain by Friday morning. We’ll start the day at a 60% coverage of our area in light to moderate rain and isolated heavier pockets. This keeps us cooler at 69 degrees, with lingering clouds and spottier showers for the afternoon to evening.

This weekend is bounces back to above average temperatures, and stays mostly dry since we’re looking at a stray shower in the mountains Saturday and Sunday. We also “get an hour of sleep back” with the end of Daylight Saving Time at 2 am Sunday. We’re still warm in the mornings in the 50s and afternoons around 76 degrees this weekend.

In your First Alert 8-Day Planner, we’re warming up early next week but we are watching for another front to head our way later in the week.
