Kewaunee girls lead slate of state cross country meet participants Saturday

The Kewaunee girls’ cross country team and four others will toe the line in Wisconsin Rapids this morning for the WIAA State Cross Country Championships.

The Kewaunee girls’ cross country team earned their spot by taking second place in the Manitowoc Lutheran Sectional with 97 points, 42 points behind first-place Valders. The Storm do boast the sectional’s individual champion with Hannah Miller winning the race with a time of 19:23. Southern Door’s Ben Grota and Lucas Conard ran identical 17:21 5K times to come in 4th and 5th place overall to earn their spots in the state field. In Kiel, With a time of 16:24, Luxemburg-Casco’s Kyan Lynts earned his spot in the state field with a fourth-place finish. His teammate Claire DuChateau did one better, taking third place in the girls’ race with a time of 19:26 to make the state championships field.

In Division 2, DuChateau will race out of Box 21 while Lynts will start in Box 21.

In Division 3, the Kewaunee girls will start out of Box 8 while Conard and Grota will come out of Box 2.
