Bruins’ Awful Start Hits Historic New Low

The Boston Bruins suffered their worst loss of the season on Halloween, as they were defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes by an 8-2 final score. Every part of their game was sloppy, and they have now dropped to a 4-6-1 record. In addition, they have lost five out of their last six games.

An interesting stat shows just how rough the Bruins’ start to the season has been. According to Sportsnet, the Bruins’ 42 goals allowed through 11 games are the most since the 1995-96 season. They finished that campaign with a 40-31-11 record.

The Bruins have developed a reputation for their excellent goaltending and defense. However, they just haven’t gotten that far early on. Of course, the same can be said about their quiet offense.

After signing an eight-year, $66 million right before the season opener, Swayman has started the season with a 3-4-1 record, a 3.57 goals-against average (GAA), and a .884 save percentage (SV%). Joonas Korpisalo has a 1-2-0 record, a .871 SV%, and a 3.48 GAA.

It has simply been a bad start for the Bruins in all aspects. While they still have time to turn things around, they will need to bounce back immediately if they hope to be a legitimate playoff threat this year.
