Bobcats look to reclaim region football crown | Sports

It’s mid-November, which means thanksgiving is almost here and Christmas is right around the corner.

It also means it’s time to buckle your chin strap a little tighter if you’re a high school football player because from here on out, it’s win or go home.

The high school football playoffs are here, and six Prince William County teams have made the big dance.

Battlefield High finished a perfect 10-0 in the regular season for the fourth year in a row and has earned the No. 1 seed in Class 6 Region B. They defeated No. 8 Gar-Field, which finished 7-4, 42- 7 in the first round on Friday.

Gainesville (8-3) was Prince William’s second best team as the No. 4 seed and hosted No. 5 Patriot (8-3), falling 19-14. Woodbridge (7-4) made the playoffs for the first time since 2017 as the No. 7 seed but lost to No. 2 North Stafford 35-28.

Freedom (Woodbridge) is the two-time defending Class 6 state champion, but the Eagles missed the playoffs at 0-6 in a rebuilding year under new coach Paul Ronga.

Elsewhere, No. 5 Brentsville finished 4-7 after falling to No. 4 Skyline 35-10 in Class 3 Region B.

The region semifinals are Nov. 22 and the final Nov. 30. The state semifinals are Dec. 7 and the Class 6 title game is Dec. 14 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. The Class 3 final is Dec. 14 at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
