Another school principal suspended in North West for bribery

The North West Department of Education has taken decisive action by suspending another school principal over bribery allegations related to hiring practices.

The principal of Matlape Primary School in Coligny was placed on precautionary suspension on Friday (8/23). The suspension follows a report from a whistle-blower alleging that the principal accepted a bribe to appoint a teacher, said departmental spokesperson, Mpatha Molokwane.

A similar incident occurred in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, where a circuit manager and school principal were suspended in March. Both were accused of soliciting or facilitating bribes in exchange for influence over recruitment decisions.

“The suspension of the Matlape Primary School principal is a preventive measure to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation,” said North West Education MEC, Viola Motsumi.

She expressed concern over the rising number of corruption cases in the department, urging employees to be vigilant. “On behalf of the department, I call on everyone to report any incidents of corruption within the department. Let the law take its course for those who act contrary to government policies,” Motsumi said.

Molokwane said the department’s Labor Directorate will continue with the disciplinary process, ensuring all allegations are thoroughly investigated. The department is committed to upholding integrity and accountability in the education system.
