A former Browns player who knows the whole new offense just landed back with an AFC North rival

CLEVELAND, Ohio — When the Ravens game plan for their Oct. 27 game here against the Browns, they can Snoop around for insider information.

On Friday, multiple reports surfaced that the Ravens are signing quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley to their practice squad after he was released by the Browns on Friday.

The Browns tried to trade him, but failed to strike a deal. Three possible trade opportunities fizzled this week when the Chargers traded for former Falcons quarterback Taylor Heinicke, the Packers traded for the Titans’ Malik Willis, and the Vikings signed veteran Brett Rypien.

Instead of keeping four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster any longer, the Browns terminated Huntley’s contract on Thursday. By Friday, he was headed back to the place he spent the first four seasons of career.

Huntley brings with him the ins and outs of the Browns’ revamped offense, but they had no choice but to let him go.

Signed by the Ravens as an undrafted rookie out of Utah in 2020, he went 3-6 in his nine starts for them, and was added to the Pro Bowl after the 2022 season as an injury replacement for Josh Allen.

Kevin Stefanski liked the dual-threat Huntley a lot in his brief time here. In three preseason games, he went 37 of 51 with 322 yards, throwing three touchdown passes — all in Seattle last weekend — and two interceptions en route to 92.1 passer rating, highest on the team.

“They’re all tough decisions,” Stefanski said. “You guys know I love Snoop, the person, the player. “I would love to keep all our guys, but it wasn’t the case.”

Instead, the Browns kept 2023 fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who had an outstanding preseason.

“It’s such a competitive roster in general, but that room was very, very competitive, and those guys all had really good moments,” Stefanski said. “Dorian coming off of his injury, to be able to put himself in position to go play like he did in the games, perform like he did in practice, I think was a big part of it.”

The Ravens were smart to add Snoop back to the practice squad, especially with all of the Browns institutional knowledge he brings with him.
