£100m signing, Kevin De Bruyne exits

£100m signing, Kevin De Bruyne exits

Manchester City have had a largely quiet transfer window so far, but there is still plenty of time for that to change.

Julian Alvarez is seemingly close to completing a move away from the Etihad Stadium to sign for Atletico Madrid. A deal which could reach up to £82million has been agreed upon between City and the La Liga club, as the Argentina international edges closer to a summer exit.

In terms of new signings, Savinho’s arrival from Troyes remains the only new addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad so far this summer. However, that has not stopped speculation from swirling all summer long about players who could still sign for City before the transfer window closes.

There have also been rumors about players that could still leave City before the September 2 deadline. In another world, City’s transfer window, and therefore their squad, would look very different had some of those aforementioned rumors come true.

With that in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at how an alternate transfer window may have panned out for City this summer.

Signed

Two midfielders who have been heavily linked with City this summer are Eberchi Eze and Bruno Guimaraes. Both players have been on international duty with their respective countries this summer, which has made the possibility of a transfer much trickier.

Eze has been heavily linked with signing for City, with suggestions that Crystal Palace would seek close to £60 million for his signature. In another world, City would have agreed to a deal and have Eze as part of their squad for the upcoming campaign.

The same could be said for Guimaraes, who has been linked with a £100 million move to City this summer. Had Newcastle not resolved their Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) earlier this summer, the Magpies could have been forced to allow Guimaraes to leave St James’ Park.

Earlier in the summer there were also rather tentative links that Vinicius Jr. could have signed for City in the rather unlikely event he was to leave Real Madrid. Had City shown a real desire to sign the Brazilian and put a tempting offer in front of Madrid, an alternate window may have seen the deal completed.

Sold

It’s not just players linked with a move to City that emerged in the rumor mill this summer. Some have been tipped to move away from the Etihad.

Two players who have been heavily linked with moves away from City this summer are Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson. Both players were linked with a transfer to a club in the Saudi Pro League but have remained in Manchester.

In the case of Ederson, City were reportedly in talks with Al Nassr over a deal for the goalkeeper. No agreement was said to have been reached, but in another world, City could have sanctioned the exit of the Brazilian and thus needed to begin a search for a new shot-stopper.

De Bruyne has also been tentatively linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer. Had City received a tempting offer for the Belgium international, in an alternate window, De Bruyne may have seen his time at the Etihad come to an end.
