Cardinal Athletics to Participate in Annual “Fantasy in Lights” Parade

Wheeling, W. Va- November 22nd marks the annual “Fantasy in Lights” parade in downtown Wheeling to kick off the holiday season. Wheeling University proudly announces that its 22 varsity sports and many other clubs and organizations will be represented in the parade.

The “Wheeling Christmas Parade,” later renamed the “Fantasy in Lights” parade, has been a rich tradition in the city since 1930. For generations, the parade has served as a way to settle into the holiday spirit while lining the streets to watch big floats, local talent, marching bands, and, of course, Saint Nick*.

Wheeling University strongly believes in community involvement. “We want to be Wheeling’s university,” said Athletic Director Carrie Hanna. “We want to live our mission of educating for life, leadership, and service with and among others, and this is one of the many ways we strive to live out that mission.” Wheeling University hosted “Trunk or Treat” on October 26th and “Stuff the Truck” on November 16th for Catholic Charities to benefit families in need in Wheeling. The university looks to continue to become Wheeling’s university, and being involved in different community events is a way to continue building towards that.

All 22 varsity sports will be represented in the upcoming “Fantasy in Lights” parade in downtown Wheeling on Friday, November 22nd. Step-off is scheduled for 6:10 pm at 24th and Market Streets. The route will run through Main Street and end at 20th Street*. We encourage everyone to attend for a night of memory-making and family fun!

The parade will be broadcast live on WTRF Channel 7 at 6:30 pm if you are unable to attend.
