Drone captures epic wave action during gale warning on Lake Michigan

GRAND HAVEN, MI— The wind was howling and waves were whipping as a Gale Warning was in effect for a majority of the Lake Michigan shoreline on Thursday.

With a pause in the precipitation, MLive multimedia specialist Joel Bissell launched a drone to get a different perspective of the waves.

His first flight was at Pere Marquette beach in Muskegon followed by a flight at Grand Haven State Park as surfers took on the large waves.

The ‘Gale Warning’ was in effect by the National Weather Service on Nov. 21 from St. Joseph to Manistee. The bulletin advised of winds up to 50 mph with precipitation.

According to the NWS, waves were 7-10 feet with occasional 13-foot waves and building to 12-16 feet.
