Richard Gere, 75, Reveals Details About Upcoming Life Change With Wife Alejandra Silva, 41, Ahead of Major Transition

Richard Gere is making a major international move—and as the 75-year-old actor explained to Jimmy Fallon“it’s all about family.”

On the Wednesday, Nov. 20 episode of The Tonight Showthe pretty woman star opened up about his plans to relocate to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silvaand their sons Alexander5, and James4.

“My wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here. And so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid,” Gere explained.

“It’s called giving back. It’s called a relationship,” he continued, noting that his kids “are bilingual, so they are going to flourish there.”

When Fallon asked if he was also bilingual, Gere answered in the affirmative.

“Oh, it’s perfect. I speak 15 languages ​​perfectly. I don’t want to hurt you by doing it right now,” he joked.

The American Gigolo actor also raved about Silva’s extended family and how living in Spain would allow them to be closer.

“She grew up in a very big Spanish family. It’s like a big Italian family. A big Spanish family. And her grandmother was kind of the glue that held it all together,” Gere said.

“And the grandmother passed away…it was about a year and a half ago, two years ago. So my wife…I can see her morphing into the new grandmother of this extended family,” he continued. “So she’s already planning for, you know, 35 people for Sunday lunches. It’s all about family.”

According to Hello!Gere and Silva have been plotting their move from New Canaan, Conn.—where they reside in the former home of Paul Simon—to Madrid since last year at least, when they visited properties and schools in Madrid’s upscale residential neighborhoods. Their new home will reportedly be a three-story mansion in the La Moraleja area with a private wine cellar and heated pool.
