Cross Country Begins 2024 Season on Saturday

Bronx, NY – (August 30, 2024) – The Fordham cross country teams will start their 2024 season on Saturday morning at the Stony Brook Invitational.

The opening meet will consist of an approximate 4K race for the women at 10:30 AM and a 6K race for the men at 11:15 AM. Live results for the meet can be found on EliteFeats.com.

This marks the seventh time since 2017 that Fordham will begin its season at Stony Brook. The Rams will be joined by Stony Brook, LIU, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, and Wagner

For the men, the Rams look to replace their top two runners from a year ago in Steven Zucca and Colin Flood. Among those looking to fill those top spots are Sean Reidywho was the Rams’ top first year runner and was Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week once in 2023, as well as the return of Rodolfo Sanchez to the cross country trail. Sanchez did not participate in cross country last year, but did return for the track & field seasons, earning Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in the indoor 3,000 meters, while being fourth in the outdoor 1,500 meters.

For the women, Fordham welcomes back sophomore Sarah Zahaykevichwho built her way up to earn a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team for outdoor track in the 10,000 meters. The Rams also look forward to seeing graduate transfer Katarina Birimac from the University of Chicago on the cross country trail. She was a two-time Academic All-American and an NCAA Division III qualifier for cross country and the distance events for indoor and outdoor track.

Last year, Fordham placed fourth in the women’s team standings at Stony Brook, while the men only ran individuals at the event.
