Flames erupt in Charlotte airport parking deck Saturday. 3 hurt, fire officials say.

Three people were injured when flames erupted in a parking deck at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Saturday morning.

“Units on scene with smoke and fire showing from the parking deck,” Charlotte Fire officials said on X, the former Twitter, just after 9:30 am “A second alarm has been struck.”

Medic took one person to a hospital for further evaluation, fire officials said.

Sixty firefighters controlled the blaze in 40 minutes, and the cause remains under investigation, according to the fire department.

“Airport operations were not affected, but expect parking delays,” fire officials said.

The fire started just after 9 am on the hourly deck, where four cars caught on fire, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported. The station published a photo from a woman who was at the airport that shows a huge plume of smoke billowing skyward.
