Hyderabad Engineer Caught Red-Handed in Bribery Sting

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Hyderabad on Friday apprehended an assistant engineer while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, officials reported. The accused is an assistant engineer with the irrigation and command area development department in Chennur.

According to authorities, the accused, identified as Jadi Chethan (27), demanded a bribe from a contractor for performing his official duties related to the submission of Ernest Money Deposit (EMD) and Fixed Security Deposit (FSD) totaling Rs 79,123. This was connected to the restoration work of Salekunta near Dugnepalli village under the Mission Kakateeya Program initiated during 2016-17.

The contractor, Bomma Chandra Shekar Reddy, lodged a complaint with the ACB, which then verified the claim and set a trap. The assistant engineer was subsequently caught red-handed accepting the bribe. The tainted money was recovered, and the chemical test on the bribe further confirmed his involvement. The accused has been and arrested produced in court; the investigation is ongoing.
