US Department of Defense revokes plea deal with Khalid Shaikh Mohammad

The US Department of Defense pulled the rug out from under the brains of 9/11 Khalid Shaikh Mohammad — rescinding his plea deal that would have saved his life.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin nullified the plea agreement that had been reached earlier this week between KSM and the supervisor of the war tribunal at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the al-Qaeda terrorist and his alleged accomplices are being prosecuted.

As you know, KSM and Osama bin Laden He planned the attacks on the World Trade Center and other U.S. targets that resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people on September 9, 2001. In 2011, bin Laden was shot and killed by Navy Seals during a U.S.-led special forces raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

After KSM’s plea deal was made public, families of 9/11 victims expressed indignation that the death penalty was no longer an option.

On Friday, Austin took matters into his own hands, tearing up the pre-trial agreement which required KSM to plead guilty to the mass murders in exchange for keeping him alive in prison for the rest of his life.

With this measure, Austin puts the death penalty back on the table and at the same time relieves the case supervisor of her duties.

Retired Brigadier General Susan K. Escallierwho reached plea agreements with KSM and his two accomplices, will continue in his supervisory role in other Guantanamo cases.
