Britney Spears’ book to be turned into biopic and she has final say on casting

Britney Spears“Life is ready for the big screen.” His best-selling memoirs is on its way to becoming a biopic… and now we know who has the final say on who will play Brit.

Universal Pictures made the announcement Thursday, saying it has secured the rights to the singer’s book, “The Woman In Me,” with filmmaker Jon M. Chu established to direct and Marc Platt willing to produce/develop.

Sources familiar with the project tell us there have been no talks yet about who would be cast to play Britney… there is no casting director attached to the film at this time, but we’re told Britney will have casting approval. So whatever she says is whatever the lead star says.


Another thing we’re told is that it’s all in the very early stages. Our sources say there’s no screenwriter involved either. So yeah, this is just in the early stages.

Britney is getting a nice payday here, though – we’re told Universal paid eight figures to secure the rights to her memoir. For all you non-math types, that’s in the tens of millions.

As for BS… Brit says she’s looking forward to seeing the film, posting on social media Thursday… “I’m excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies…stay tuned.”

Chu and Platt recently worked together on the upcoming film version of the musical “Wicked,” which stars another pop star. Ariana Grande.

That context is interesting because when asked if the Britney biopic will be a musical like Elton JohnAs for “Rocketman,” our sources indicated that Chu and Platt were fresh off of “Wicked” … and that it was a musical. So, I guess you can draw your own conclusions.
